Building Careers That Last: Celebrating Graham’s 35 Years at the Glenray Laundry
For 35 years, Graham has walked through the doors of the Glenray Laundry in Bathurst, ready for a day’s work, a laugh with mates, and a routine he loves.
Since starting as a supported employee in February 1991, Graham has built not just practical skills, but a meaningful career. His milestone is a powerful example of what supported employment can achieve when people are given the opportunity to contribute and grow.
“I still love coming into work,” Graham says. “everything about it; the training and seeing my friends.” Graham’s message to anyone considering supported employment “You’ll have lots of fun, build your skills and make lifelong friends.”
Glenray’s Social Enterprise Manager, Donovan Lamb, has seen the impact first hand. “Graham is such a valued member of our team. The way he shows up for his work and his teammates each day is a great example of the amazing contribution our supported employees make to our organisation.”
His colleagues at the laundry agree, “35 years of commitment to one place is huge! Over those years he has shown dedication and a willingness to always have a go.”
Supported employment provides people living with disability the opportunity to participate in meaningful, paid work in a supportive environment. Employees receive tailored training, develop their confidence, and learn to be part of a team, all while contributing to real business outcomes.
Graham is one of around 50 supported employees across Glenray’s social enterprises, each contributing to their community and proving that with the right support, employment can be empowering, fulfilling and long-term.
